Past President’s Message
As I complete a four year term as President of CAHPMM I feel
many emotions. I feel that it has been a wonderful 4 years, plus one as
Secretary-Treasurer, as President. The Board has been terrific to work with. We
have planned successful conferences for you the membership. I have made many friends. I have learned so
much from my peers. I feel that I have grown personally and professionally
through the friendships and networking I developed through CAHPMM. I also feel
relieved that Rick has taken over.
The conferences during my Presidency ranged from assisting
with the AHRMM meeting in 1999 in San Francisco,
then back to Shell Beach
for the past 3 years. What a beautiful, fun and relaxing site. The topics have
ranged from a day on e-commerce with a half-day follow up the following year,
completing the ARHMM questionnaire regarding e-commerce and having
President-Elect of AHRMM Al Cook join us to review the information, activity
based costing, HIPPA, facility planning, FDA reprocessing guidelines, and this
year’s presentation by Gary Wagner from INOVA in Virginia to talk about the
effects of 9/11 on their facility and the area which was followed by Al Cook
and Jim Dillon talking about disaster preparedness. The themes have proven to be
exciting with a Hawaiian theme – where two board members hoolah danced for us,
60’s theme with a visit from Sunny and Share and George Harrison, and the
Halloween theme where a homeless Materials Manager and Captain Kirk
entertained. To quote our AHRMM President “It’s amazing what people will do
when there is no film in the camera!” The number of attendees has steadily
increased. I appreciate that you find value in the organization. We always have
a lot of fun mixed in with education and networking. Join us sometime!
I will continue to serve on the Board as a Past President. I
will be as involved as the Board and membership would like to see me. I would
like to thank the board, conference attendees and the membership for allowing
me the opportunity to serve as your President.
